Ohio State Finishes No. 3 In Final AP Poll

The 2018 college football season ended last night with Clemson’s emphatic 44-16 victory over Alabama in the national championship game and the final AP rankings were released early Tuesday morning.

Ohio State came in at No. 3 in the last AP poll of the 2018 college football season, trailing only national champion Clemson and national runner-up Alabama. The Buckeyes finished ahead of the other two playoff semifinalists, Notre Dame and Oklahoma, as the Sooners came in at No. 4 and the Fighting Irish came in at No. 5.

The Buckeyes finished the season with the third-most wins in college football, once again only trailing Clemson and Alabama who played each other in the national title game.

Ohio State finished their season with a 13-1 record, with a resounding 62-39 over Michigan, a 45-24 Big Ten Championship victory over Northwestern and a 28-23 Rose Bowl victory over Washington to end the season and Urban Meyer’s tenure as head coach of the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes were the only Big Ten team to finish in the top ten of the rankings but the conference placed five teams overall, with Michigan coming in at No. 14, Penn State at No. 17, Northwestern at No. 21 and Iowa squeaking in at No. 25.

With their No. 3 ranking, Ohio State finishes the 2018 season with their highest final ranking since winning the national championship to end the 2014 season. This is the 14th time in program history that the Buckeyes have finished third or better in the final AP poll of the season.

Ohio State will now look to ride this momentum on the back of new head football coach Ryan Day as they turn their sights on making it back to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2016. The Buckeyes are currently tied with Georgia and Michigan at 12/1 for the third-best odds to win the 2019 national title, trailing only national champ Clemson (2/1 odds) and national runner-up Alabama (5/2 odds) for the best odds to win the title next season.
