COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State men’s basketball team made a triumphant return to the historic St. John Arena on Friday night as the Buckeyes picked up an 89-62 victory over Cleveland State in an electric environment for a college basketball game.
Both teams didn’t come out shooting so hot in the first couple minutes of the game, but Ohio State managed to jump out to a 10-2 lead four minutes into the game.
The Buckeyes built up their lead to 20-10 before Cleveland State made a quick 7-0 run to cut the lead to three with 8:41 remaining in the first half.
Ohio State would respond with a 13-2 run of their own as they took a 33-19 lead with less than five minutes in the half.
Cleveland State would chip away at the Ohio State lead a bit going into halftime as the Buckeyes took a 38-29 lead into the break.
The Buckeyes came out of the half shooting lights out as they made nine of their first eleven shots from the field in the opening minutes of the second half to take a commanding 60-38 lead.
Ohio State would not look back the rest of the game as they ran away with a dominating 89-62 victory in their return to St. John Arena.
Sophomore forward Kaleb Wesson turned in yet another tremendous performance for Ohio State as he scored 19 points on 8-15 shooting as well as grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists in the same building as his father.
Senior guard C.J. Jackson finally broke out of his recent scoring funk against the Vikings as he scored 17 points.
Andre Wesson also had a decent performance to compliment his brother’s as he posted 11 points on 4-7 shooting in the victory.
Ohio State will return to Value City Arena next Wednesday, November 28th as they get set to face a Top-25 Syracuse team at home.
